Eryka, You’re So Rad!

Erykah Badu is arguably best known for her amazing voice and career in music, having released five studio albums, including her highly successful and acclaimed debut, Baduizm, in 1997. However, the American soul singer has also worked as an actress, music producer and is an entrepreneur with her own online store, Badu World Market. She has also eschewed eating meat for most of her life.
Erykah Badu was a vegetarian for around 20 years before becoming vegan in 2006. On the subject of not eating meat for such a long period Badu said: “…vegetarianism just always made sense to me. [What farmed animals] endure is just terrible. It’s horrible.” On the subject of eating vegan Erykah stated: “Vegan food is soul food in its truest form. Soul food means to feed the soul. And to me, your soul is your intent. If your intent is pure, you are pure.”
Aside from the horrendous treatment of animals in the meat and dairy industry, Badu enjoys the health benefits of a vegan lifestyle, saying: “It’s just what’s best for my body. If I was a Lamborghini, I would want to put the best gas in it.”
When talking about her daily routine, Badu said, “I do the same thing every day. I get up. Drink a lot of water. Have a wheatgrass shot. Drink some green juice. Eat as healthy as I can. I’m not trying to win an award for being the best vegetarian, just want to be healthy.”
