Legendary Colin Kaepernick

Colin Kaepernick is perhaps best known as being not only a very successful member of the American Football team, the San Francisco 49ers, but also for kneeling during the American National Anthem prior to matches to draw attention to what he described as “police brutality toward black people”.  While his activism around the issues of human injustice is well documented, what is less well known is that around the same time that the athlete began kneeling for the anthem, he also changed to a plant-based diet. In August of 2016, Kaepernick told reporters that he had been living a vegan lifestyle for about 9 months.
Being a professional athlete means that Kaepernick follows an intensive workout regime and in 2018 he posted a picture of himself in the gym with the hashtag #notbadforavegan.
In 2020, the ice cream manufacturers, Ben and Jerry’s, released a flavour inspired by Kaepernick’s activism. The new flavour is called, “Change the Whirled”, and is of course made without dairy or any other animal products.

Will.i.am

Will.i.am is one member of the pop/ hip hop outfit, The Black Eyed Peas, as well as an actor and record producer. Real name, William Adams Jr., he
began a vegan lifestyle in his 40s due to a desire to live a healthier life and lose some weight. He also states that concern for the planet and animals
contributed to his inspiration to pursue a vegan lifestyle.
“I’m fighting for a healthier me and a healthier planet. I started realising… urgh, I was eating, like, rotted animal lactate… that came from a freaking cow’s tit? That’s disgusting.”
Since becoming a vegan, Will.i.am has expressed no desire to return to his old meat-eating ways.
“I’m vegan, and I don’t miss steaks. You know what I’m saying? I don’t miss steaks! I don’t miss steaks, I don’t miss chicken, I don’t miss fish. I’m vegan.”
Speaking of his lifestyle prior to becoming a vegan,
Will.i.am said in an Instagram video, “For many years I would go to sleep and wake up tired, and that’s ’cause my body was processing god knows what type of crazy wicked sh*t that was approved.”
William also endorses a veganism in his lyrics. In the Black Eyed Peas track, “Vibration Pt. 1 Pt. 2”, William raps: “You eat the yellowtail, I’m a eat the plant-based I ain’t chewing on no food, with two eyes and a face.”
