Did you know there’s a strict and definitive scale for ranking the chilli hotness?! It’s called the Scoville scale after a pharmacist called Wilbur Scoville. The more mild bell peppers are around 1-100 SHU (Scoville Heat Units) which is the lower side of the scale, while hotter peppers like cayenne are more like 30,000 – 50,000 SHU. The spiciest pepper known to man is called the Carolina Reaper, which can reach up to 2.2 million SHU!
You may have heard of the YouTube channel Hot Ones. Natalie Portman reps the vegans
while talking about her work on the Eating Animals documentary based on the popular book by Jonathan Safran Foer…and she barely breaks a sweat! Another outstanding performance.
